Bloodstock 2013 New Blood Stage Preview: PROSPERINA

Prosperina band Bloodstock festival 2013

The New Blood Stage exists to provide a platform for the next generation of metal talent to reach a wider audience. From Bloodstock’s very beginning back in 2001 there has been a focus on offering a chance for newcomers – the new blood if you will – to strut their stuff.

The New Blood Stage is an exceptional opportunity for emerging acts to perform in front of Bloodstock’s dedicated audience of metal fans and important music industry figures. Those lucky enough to secure a slot on the New Blood Stage also get to play both Wacken Open Air in Germany and Metal Camp in Slovenia.

Bloodstock’s always supported the next generation of bands and to me it was obvious they needed a platform to show their wares – Bloodstock founder Paul Raymond Gregory

Band Members: Gethin Woolcock: Guitar & Vox, Owen Street: Bass & sound effects,  Yo-Yo Walsh: Drums
Year Formed: 2009
Location: Swansea
The band at Bloodstock most likely to: Sound very different in a good way

Give me the ‘Hollywood Film’ version of how the band formed and how you came to be named.

It was an ordinary day, in an ordinary town until three ordinary guys came together with one shared purpose: to transcend our everyday realities by channelling the supernatural power of the riff. Upon our first exploration into the fiery pits of doom, a giant vortex opened up under our feet and a cloven hoof delivered a scroll with the name ‘PROSPERINA’ scrawled on it in the blood of a virgin. From that day forth we were driven forward with the same vacant eyes as the Midwich Cuckoos in our quest to channel the universe’s most powerful riff. True story.

What style of metal do you play?

What bands would you say your music is ‘for fans of’ ?

How did you get your slot at the Festival?

Geth: We were up late doing a Ouija board one night and we asked the spirits if there was any chance we could share a festival bill with such luminaries as Slayer, Lamb of God and Voivod. The spirit replied ‘Don’t be such a fool’ but it must have been toying with us as the very next day we got an email from the organisers inviting us to play. We were obviously very pleased about that.

What’s the first thing you did after you found out you had a slot?

A fistpump headstand.

Which of your tracks do you think will create the biggest wave of headbanging?

Hmmm. Trees Have Eyes usually causes a bit of a stir but God V Darwin has a bit of a Motorhead after valium vibe going down.

Is this the largest event you have played, and what are the nerves like?

Yeah – this could take it I think. We played an open-air festival last year and we were one of the heaviest bands on the bill but I think the crowd at B.O.A will be much more intense and up for it. As for the nerves – I’m cool as a cucumber slice in liquid nitrogen right now but will probably be bricking it before we hit the stage! Ha!

Which band members are likely to have the most incriminating photos after the festival?

Geth: Owen!

Which bands are you most looking forward to seeing?

Voivod, Lamb of God, Slayer

What have been the best moments for you at previous Bloodstock Festivals?

We are Bloodstock virgins so all our best moments are yet to come!

What is your current release? Explain a little about it….

Geth: Our debut album Faith in Sleep is out at the moment and it is a pretty spacey, doomy, sludgy and melodic journey with loads of big, fat sexy riffs. I also sing cryptically about the destruction of the planet, politics, the illuminati, satellites and much more. Give it a spin, we think you’ll enjoy it!

Lastly, a set clash with a main stage band, give a good reason/threat/sob story as to why fans should come watch you instead..

You’ve never seen an amplifier shudder like Owen’s 8×10 when he hits the low note in Graveyard of ambition – It’s an experience you need in your life! Also When Yo gets excited mid set he throws his top off and starts shouting into mid air like a mental patient. I will also be singing some good songs and looking sexy if neither of those turn you on…

Prosperina are playing Bloodstock Festival on Friday 9th August.  |
