As Bloodstock rapidly descends upon us MetalMouth caught up with Norwich based thrashers, Killer Hurts, (geddit?) for a bite sized pre festival interview:
How did you choose your bands name?
Myself, (Errol Watson), and Jason Thompson were the original members of Killer Hurts and we both picked a band name each. Jays was “Suicidal Scanner” and mine was “Killer Hurts”. Killer Hurts won, and here we are still.
What’s the most difficult thing you encounter as an emerging band, and how have you overcome it?
What we have found most difficult as an unsigned band, is breaking into new promoters/venues etc. We are currently working hard on networking and making new contacts, and utilising word of mouth from friends in other bands to break down some of those barriers.
How would you describe Killer Hurts‘s sound?
Killer Hurts’ sound is pulled from early Bay Area Thrash/NWOBHM, mixed with modern metal/thrash bands, such as Bonded by Blood, Gamma Bomb etc. We also like the new sounds from old school bands such as Overkill, Exodus, Anthrax, and Testament.
How did you get to be a part of the festival? (if through Metal to The Masses which area?)
Killer Hurts performed in the East Anglia heats of the MTTM competition held at the Waterfront Norwich.
What are the nerves like right now? Is this your biggest ever audience/first festival appearance?
Bloodstock will be the first and biggest festival we have been privileged to perform at, and personally I think my nerves will kick in when we actually arrive there! With so many other things to organise beforehand, there has been little time for nerves so far. As I get nervous before most shows anyway, I’m sure I will be feeling it immensely on the day. It will be amazing to play in front of a great metal audience, and on such a brilliant line up.
What bands are you most looking forward to seeing at Bloodstock?
Bands we want to see are Testament, Machine Head, Evile, Paradise Lost and for myself I am looking forward to Fallen Fate, Reign of Fury, Headcharger, Battalion and several others from the New Blood Stage.
Are there any other up and coming bands out there you would recommend keeping an eye on right now?
There is an amazing amount of great up and coming bands about at the moment such as Shrapnel, Kemakil, Rezinwolf and Necrorizer to name a few.
Do you have any funny stories from your route to Bloodstock (or any previous times that you have been to the festival) that you would like to share with the MetalMouth readers?
As for the funny stories, I think they are more likely to occur at the Festival! Interview me again afterwards!
Are there any messages that you would like to pass on to your fans?
We will have our first full length album ready for release later this year. It has 12 tracks, and so far, it is sounding awesome – watch this space!!
KILLER HURTS are playing the Bloodstock Festival on Friday 10th on the New Blood Stage
