The New Blood Stage exists to provide a platform for the next generation of metal talent to reach a wider audience. From Bloodstock’s very beginning back in 2001 there has been a focus on offering a chance for newcomers – the new blood if you will – to strut their stuff.
The New Blood Stage is an exceptional opportunity for emerging acts to perform in front of Bloodstock’s dedicated audience of metal fans and important music industry figures. Those lucky enough to secure a slot on the New Blood Stage also get to play both Wacken Open Air in Germany and Metal Camp in Slovenia.
Bloodstock’s always supported the next generation of bands and to me it was obvious they needed a platform to show their wares – Bloodstock founder Paul Raymond Gregory
Band Name: The Infernal Sea
Band Members: Dean Lettice – Vocals, Geoff Taha – Bass, Jonathan Egmore – Guitar, James Burke – Drums.
Year Formed: 2012
The band at Bloodstock most likely to: Show off our hipster credentials by hanging out in the tea tent (Early grey and Carrot cake yeah?). That’s metal, right?
Give me the ‘Hollywood Film’ version of how the band formed and how you came to be named.
We converged from hell at the alter, to create extreme metal for the Anti-God. On the tenth day of the rising Moon when the planets aligned and the oceans raged with terror we were blessed by the Gods as lords of The Infernal Sea.
What style of metal do you play?
What bands would you say your music is ‘for fans of’ ?
We have often been compared to acts such as Burzum, Darkthrone and Dissection but we appeal to all fans of the heavier end of metal.
How did you get your slot at the Festival?
We submitted our album ‘Call of the Augur’ to the organisers. They liked what they heard and as a result invited us to perform at this years Bloodstock.
What’s the first thing you did after you found out you had a slot?
We celebrated by sacrificing a goat as a gift to our master for answering our prayers.
Which of your tracks do you think will create the biggest wave of headbanging?
It will be a battle between ‘Ritual Incantation’ and the Black ‘N’ Roll of ‘Skinwalker’ as these are live favourites.
Is this the largest event you have played, and what are the nerves like?
This is our first major festival. We are not really nervous but more anxious to get on stage and show Bloodstock what we have to offer.
Which band members are likely to have the most incriminating photos after the festival?
It will most likely be our vocalist or drummer, as they always seem to get into some form of trouble.
Which bands are you most looking forward to seeing?
There are so many great bands playing this year but we are mostly looking forward to King Diamond, Dying Fetus, Dark Funeral, Anthrax, Exodus, and Accept. It’s also going to be pretty awesome seeing Slayer on the Bloodstock stage too!
What have been the best moments for you at previous Bloodstock Festivals?
There are too many to choose, but it has to be seeing At The Gates for their first UK show in years at Bloodstock in 2008. The atmosphere was great and everyone was genuinely excited to be watching them. Unlike other metal festivals in the UK, Bloodstock always feels a bit more intimate and we find we can actually enjoy watching bands a hell of a lot more here.
What is your current release? Explain a little about it….
Our current release is ‘The Crypt Sessions’ EP. Recorded live in the heart of winter it is a grim little number that showcases where the band currently are. We have progressed since our debut album ‘Call of the Augur’ and the EP really showcases the strength of our new material.
Lastly, a set clash with a main stage band, give a good reason/threat/sob story as to why fans should come watch you instead..
ERM!!!! As far as we are aware we are the only English Black Metal band on the bill (currently), so if you want to support home grown BM, then come and check us out. Also, if you have always wanted to see a drummer windmill whilst blasting like a man possessed, then we are the band for you.
The Infernal Sea are playing Bloodstock Festival on Saturday 10th August.
