The New Blood Stage exists to provide a platform for the next generation of metal talent to reach a wider audience. From Bloodstock’s very beginning back in 2001 there has been a focus on offering a chance for newcomers – the new blood if you will – to strut their stuff.
The New Blood Stage is an exceptional opportunity for emerging acts to perform in front of Bloodstock’s dedicated audience of metal fans and important music industry figures. Those lucky enough to secure a slot on the New Blood Stage also get to play both Wacken Open Air in Germany and Metal Camp in Slovenia.
Bloodstock’s always supported the next generation of bands and to me it was obvious they needed a platform to show their wares – Bloodstock founder Paul Raymond Gregory
Band Name: FURY
Band Members: Alasdair Davis – Drums, Julian Jenkins – Guitar and Vocals, Martin Trail – Bass and Backing Vocals, Jake Beesley – Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals
Year Formed: God knows when really
The band at Bloodstock most likely to: Give you everything you have ever wanted.
Give me the ‘Hollywood Film’ version of how the band formed and how you came to be named.
Fury finished forming in the darkest depths of Worcester just before Christmas of 2013 when ginger shred meister Jake “Judge Redd” Beesley joined the band. It was cold, windy and snowy. Alasdair Davis the drummer was out delivering doctors to the local hospital and decided to pop in to Jake’s bar to see if he fancied joining the ranks.
It was a plan hatched on board Captain Julian Jenkins’ ship, The Skanky Groin, by Capn’ J, Admiral Alasdair Davis and Brigadeer Martin Trail only weeks before. Alasdair would transport the doctors and “accidentally” call in on the Judge with some CDs and pop the big question…
“Fancy joining Fury dude?”
Back to first person
Fury is named Fury because… you’ll have to come find out why on the Sunday.
What style of metal do you play?
Bloodstock call Fury “trad metal”… this is a fair comment. Fury fuse, thrash, heavy and NWOBHMetal.
What bands would you say your music is ‘for fans of’ ?
Fury is for fans of metal with taste… If you must have bands to be liken Fury to then here you are… Old Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Testament and so on.
How did you get your slot at the Festival?
I sent in a massive press pack, some CDs and a vinyl… And then here is the main bit which the Facebook generation keeps forgetting… Our manager pestered 10 barrels of shit out of Simon Hall on the PHONE.
What’s the first thing you did after you found out you had a slot?
I went and sat on the loo and contemplated the good news.
Which of your tracks do you think will create the biggest wave of headbanging?
Burn The Earth and Kill The Light. Easy.
Is this the largest event you have played, and what are the nerves like?
This will be one of the biggest, we played Hammerfest in 2012 to at least 1,000 people. This is going to be totally awesome though.
Which band members are likely to have the most incriminating photos after the festival?
Geez, we all may do. For different reasons. We are very naughty boys.
Which bands are you most looking forward to seeing?
I am looking forward to what is left of Slayer, I like Anthrax too. And our pals in Evil Scarecrow are always a great act to watch.
What have been the best moments for you at previous Bloodstock Festivals?
Going in the pit in a tent. Making the tallest flag. Making a 4 human high tower. Tea-bagging unsuspecting friends. The usual.
What is your current release? Explain a little about it….
Our current release is a 7” vinyl called “Warrior’s Prayer”. We recorded at the The Old Smithy Recording Studios where I used to work in. It hass hosted Judas Priest for their last two records, Diamond Head recorded “Am I Evil” there and so on. It’s a great studio and I use it for free!
It took us a couple of weekends to record and then it was mixed by a chap called Richard Wood who engineered Judas Priest’s record so that was cool to work with him again.
Since releasing it, it has been snapped up by local Aviva Premiership rugby team the Worcester Warrior’s” who are using it as their theme tune. Which is pretty pimping!
The B side is a metal cover of “Drunken Sailor” and is partially responsible for the bollocks about being on a pirate ship earlier in this interview.
Lastly, a set clash with a main stage band, give a good reason/threat/sob story as to why fans should come watch you instead..
A clash sounds like people would be unsure as to who they should come and watch. All I can say is, we will put in 100%, our songs are catchy, we are fun to watch and if you go see someone else instead of us then you have not had the best possible time that you could have at Bloodstock 2013. Plus we’ll be really grateful for your attendance.
