EMP!RE are a five piece rock band from the South West of England who formed in early 2012.
Self releasing their debut EP, ‘Birth’ in late 2012, Empire followed up in October of 2013 with ‘mini album’ entitled “Where The World begins” which spawned two singles, ‘Black Hearts’ and the utterly anthemic, ‘Future, Past and Present’, which is when I first heard them.
The band site influences such as Arcane Roots, Biffy Clyro, Coheed & Cambria, Janelle Monáe, Circa Survive and At The Drive In, but the band definitely have their own original sound. Think Skindred style bounce, with a rock vocal of which I have not heard the quality, clarity and power of since Freddie Mercury.
There is something about this band that fired up my genitals from the first time I saw them, I threw off my clothes and ran naked round the room to ‘Past Present, Future’. It’s a a get your fuck in my brain anthem that needs to be spread. Ok, so I didn’t do the naked thing because I first heard it at a gig, but hey, the thought was there.
The vocal as mentioned is crytalline, and frankly disgusting for one person to hold, the guitars, the stage performance – all dragging you forward like a crack whore, with non crack sensibilities and to be fair, is exactly what a live band needs to deliver to it’s crowd.
You know when A&R people put bands in the public eyes? and miss this talent? Yeah, fuck label people in this instance. This is astounding talent.
Debut Mini-Album “Where The World Begins” is out now.
